Hi Josh. Some good ideas here. I take a different philosophy, based on trying a few years ago to live off my emergency food supply: I was miserable, and resolved to make my "normal" supply more like the emergency one, to get a better understanding of both. Now I live mostly off of my dry goods, which are stored 6 months forward (plan to up this to a year), and rotate to keep things a little fresh. So I know exactly what I'm in for, don't get surprised by e.g. rice moths which I now know how to deal with (freeze before storing, it kills the eggs). The weird thing is, because I'm using non-processed foods--none of the canned goods you talk about--and my food is balanced, I've become much healthier. Without aiming to I've lost 25 lbs in 5 months, and seem to have put off a rendezvous with a heart attack. Also have reduced total food costs to $150/month. If you want more details write me at kman847a@yahoo.com. Thanks for an informative & useful site.
